Are automated destoners becoming normal earlier now for medium roasteries?

A few years ago many shops saw automatic destoners as something for bigger production only. Now I hear medium roasteries starting earlier because labor attention is tighter and foreign-object risk feels less acceptable. Are automated destoners becoming normal earlier now, or still one of those upgrades most teams can delay safely?

Earlier than before, yes. It is not only throughput now, also consistency and risk control.

Yes, medium scale now reaches complexity sooner than old assumptions.

When output already steady every week, small missed foreign object can become expensive problem. Destoner starts to look less optional at that point.

Manual checks still matter, but automation reduces dependence on perfect attention.

The value becomes clearer once packing complaints would hurt more than equipment cost.
