traceability from green bean down to that cup was necessary or nice@@?

the more cafe specialty asks about traceability before you buy one. They want to know what farms, what processes, what lots, cupping score.

But from the roastery side, traceability is not trivial. needs a system that can link Zgreen bean lot to batches roast to batch packaging to delivery to a specific outlet.

Question: how far is the realistic traceability for mid-scale roastrery? And is the customer cafe special really this check or just asking?

the high-end cafe specialty is really a check, not just asking for formalities. Some asked for CoA and a lot tracking sheet. If they can't provide, they pick another roaster that can.

the minimum viable traceability that I watch: lot number in each bag, with that lot number able to trace to the roast batch where, and batch roast to Zgreen bean to the ZZC003Z lot of suppliers. There's no need to get to the farm at all if it's the importer.

this is so practical. that lot number in packaging is the most visible to the customer and the most useful if there's a claim or a quality problem.

from the importer and exporter side i've talked to, they've had a pretty complete lot of documentation. roastery only asks and keeps the document per lot. no retrack of zero.

betul, leveraging documentation dari supply chain upstream itu lebih efisien. yang perlu ditambah di level roastery: link lot masuk ke batch roast dan ke output.

the system that can handle this from roast logs up to inventory to delivery in one of those platforms that make traceability not an additional burden. If it's still a multi@-@ spreadsheet manual, the effector is huge and the rate error is high.

there's another side that's often forgotten: that traceability is also internally useful for trouble shooting. If there are batches that taste off, with good traceability can quickly identify what the problem is in Zgreen bean or in the process of Zroasting.
