a coffee adjusted to a personal preference, is this the future or is it too difficult?

coffee trends personalization are getting visible. in the cafe already have the concept "build your own": select base bean, select brewing method, select milk / non-dairy, select strength. Some of the coffee service subscriptions have also asked for the preferred time-sign up and adjust shipments based on feedback

There's something more sophisticated. Use a taste profiling quiz for match. You go to specific original or Zroast style.

I like the concept. But there's a question that comes up: Is this personalization really driven by consumer need or is it more of a clean sale? And how far can these scale be without losing quality?

the concept of taste profiling the quiz has been psychologically proven to be an engagement and purchase intent in another retail sector. people are more willing to commit when there's sense of personality, even if the fundamental product is not so different. the important thing is whether the product that was sent was genetically matched-up is the same feedback given.

once tried one taste profiling quiz for foreign coffee subscriptions. the result is quite accurate, recommend some of the originals that i did enjoy. but the feedback loop for the refinement was slow, had to wait for some delicate cycle before the adjustment felt. maybe that's the part that needs more improve on tech side.

the scaling personalization was operationally challenging. if the cafe has 10 options, bean, 4 brewing method, and 6 milk options are 240 combinations. managing inventory, keeping freshness, training barista for all variations, it's the arabic cost that should have a trade-off.

from the farmer's point of view and roaster: Genuine's personality should be able to signal upstream about what consumer actually value. If the data from Personalization subscription shows the majority of consumer natural processed Ethiopia for morning cup, it's actionable intel that can influence sourcing decision.

there's a little unfortunate side of the extreme personality: miss element of discovery and surprise. sometimes coffee-picking recommendations from unfamiliar roastry or unfamiliar original are the ones that give you the most sentimental experience. too much personalization could be a coffee-version bubble filter.

the sustainable of the personalization that the genuine loves value to consumers is not just the illusion of control. if the subscriptions system really learned from the feedback and really delivered better match over time, it's sticky product. if only novelty were on signal-up flow but the delivery is generic, churn rate would be high.
