agtron used to be standard color measurement postIt's expensive. It's a delay.

Now there's a real-time color analysis technology, as long as the batch lasts, without the sample. interesting concept: faster feedback loop to hit target roast more accurate.

My question: for a roaster that already has a tight manual protocol, sample, grind, check Agtron score, adjust batch next, what is the actual development of reality-time analysis? Is it worth the investment?

from the signal quality side, reality-time color analysis it's challowing because the newly developed seeds have different optical properties of seeds already at the end of roast. The model that interpret the data color needs to be robusts against this variation, and so far accuracy at early stage roast is still instantial.

use case most clear for reality-time color: consistency check between batches on different days. If you can set the Agtron range targets and an alert system, if you have a drift, it immediately reduces human error from visual check only being subjective.

How much is an agtron worth? Because from what I hear, the investment is pretty big just for the paint gauge.

Agtron Gourmet used to specialize in roastry about $1,000- 2,000 range. There's a more affordable alternative like Col. Track or M-Base that's a few hundred dollars, but it's a tradeoff.

i'm more interested in NlR spectroscopy application that some research group explore. NlR can detect more than just colors, can capture moisture content, density, some chemical compound. If you can compact and affordable, it's complete game changer.

practical question: a commercial reality-time color analyzer, can you integrate it with the existing logging software? or just standalone? because if the data doesn't go into the batch record, the benefits are less than maximum.

for roasty production specialty with high consistency targets and receiving order in large volume, reality-time color that's legitimacy investment. for a small action roaster that roast small batch and sells direct, manual check is still perfectly available.

ada yang pernah ikut blind cupping dimana panel tidak tahu target Agtron score-nya? menarik untuk tau apakah panel bisa reliably detect perbedaan 2-3 point Agtron, karena itu yang jadi justifikasi precision measurement.
