boom micro roaster 1-5kg itu udah jadi segmen sendiri sekarang, ada yang sepakat?

i realized recently more and more roasting machines have entered the market. The price is more accessible, some of the designs are compact.

This is interesting to me because it means the entry barrier to the roasting world is down significant. Someone could learn Zroast seriously without having to invest in a kiloan setup that needed a big spot.

But someone told me: "roasting below 3kg is a different physique, it's hard to scale up to a bigger one." Can anyone explain?

it's about heat mass ratio. in small batches, seeds are very small relative to drums, so the heat of the drum is dominant. in large batches, seeds are more "protected" to each other and different distributed heat. the profile you're developing at 1kg is not directly transpose to 15kg.

ini juga kenapa tasting panel buat evaluasi roast profile itu idealnya pakai batch yang sama size dengan yang akan diproduksi massal. kalau QC sampling kamu pakai 500g tapi produksi 30kg, hasilnya bisa berbeda.

this micro boom roaster has downside: the consistency between batches is much harder on a small scale. The ambient temperature variation affects greater relative to ZZCF002Z. in the monsoon versus drought there could be a noticeable difference if there is no temperature controlled environment.

to study at home is very helpful. no rent or big investment. but if the planet is eventually a coffee shop or a sale, there needs to be a clear strategy of when to move to a larger scale and how to adapt the profile.

i have a friend who starts at 1kg, now has 12kg after 3 years. he said the most difficult transition was not to buy a new machine, but re- developed all the profiles from the beginning because nothing could be moved immediately. it needs an effect.

i backed this up. transition to a larger scale is not twice the effort, more like a rebuild than two-thirds. it's easier to have a roadmaster who can guide that transition.

any idea how many batches Zroasting needs to really understand the characteristics of small machines before they can be consistent? Ask because it's new and still feel random.

no exact numbers, but there's a rule of thumb in the community: 50-100 batches to start feeling the theory, 200 more batches to start confident troubleshoot. And it's with a consistent logging, not roast and forget.
