when 2021 was crazy, a 40-foot container from Asia to Europe could be $14,000 more. Now it's down, but the early Red Sea crisis 2024 began to rise again to the range of $6,000- 8,000 for the same route.

The pre-COVID base is $1,500-2,000 per container. So it's still 34x from the baseline as far as the peaks go.

That's called 23 weeks transit time. For a green bean whose timing is important, it's kind of an inventory planning.

who now buys or sells Zgreen bean, markup shipping cost to what price? di-absorb yourself or directly pass on to buyer?

cIF contracts, shipper's on board. If it's FOB, the buyer's on it. The problem is that a lot of informal deals are made when the price of freedom is still low and two parties are dispute as actual freshly rise.

the simplest solution i've heard of is some trader: break up the wild cost of the product price in an explicit contract. so if the straight goes up, there's a clear clause of who's absorb by how many percent.

the rising cost shipping also changed the economy of some origin. the little lot that used to draw price is now a very thin margin if it's a big proportional frequency of cargo value.

i've been a deal where a budget cancel order at the last minute a freight went up all of a sudden. contract no clear force clauses, and insist on paying it legally if it's overseas. that's awful.

long-term contract free is worth it if the volume is enough. many forwarding offers a 3-6-month rate lock for a specific volume. if the frequency is regular, negotiate it.

the original close to the consumer market has a significant advantage of running volatile time like this. obviously the value of proximation to buyer is growing.
