Is loyalty card still enough, or customers expect app-based rewards now?

loyalty cards versus app-based rewards looks like one of those ideas that can either become strong long-term asset or just another busy project. I am interested in the boring reality behind it: workload, consistency, staff energy, customer response, and repeatability.

If you have already tested loyalty cards versus app-based rewards, what result convinced you to continue or to stop?

What changed my mind about loyalty cards versus app-based rewards was seeing repeat behavior, not first-week excitement. Coffee business always has ideas; the rare thing is ideas that stay healthy.

in Indonesia i often see loyalty cards versus app-based rewards sound exciting in beginning, but after some weeks the discipline go down. so i think system is more important than hype.

I have seen loyalty cards versus app-based rewards work, but only when the business knows exactly what metric to watch. If nobody measures anything, then it becomes activity without learning.

My impression is that loyalty cards versus app-based rewards looks stronger from outside than inside. Customer may like it, but if the team feels overloaded the long-term value drops fast.

I would not reject loyalty cards versus app-based rewards at all, but I think many operators start it too early. First the core operation must be calm, then extra initiative has better chance.
