customeres get more weird requests, is this a chance or a headache?

it's been a week since I've had a custom request. "Coffee but no coffee," "iced coffee, but not bitter at all," "oat milk but a full-cream crust."

I understand this is the custom-loving Gen Z, Starbucks alone saying that almost 50% of their orders are custom-custom now. But for a small cafe, every custom request is time, and training is barista, and sometimes it's a waste.

Did anyone find a good handle? What's standardize some tier custemization, what's free- forall, what's the limit?

his operating limit. not that it shouldn't be custom, but a custom options menu that's definitely on the board menu. so customer knows the limit, but barista isn't surprised either.

i'm getting sales points. "menu" can be custom = Instagram content written by custom. free marketing si.

this is the logic. it's in. but the practice is hard

it makes a lot of sense when it doesn't make sense. someone once asked for espresso but asked for a level 5 sweetmeat and the coffee didn't feel bad. yes, you asked for sweet max.

this wkwk is very common. my solution is to give you a delicate warning on the menu:

but the surcharge for heavy custoization is valid too. if you ask for 5 addsome cafe did this.

there's a study of hospitality institute that perceive value of "customizable experience" is high, customer wants to pay 15-20% more for a cafe that loves genuine custoization. so it's not just pain points, it's got monetization.
