Youngsters don't want to be Farmer: serious threats to Supply Coffee?

D

One issue that may not be often discussed, but its impact is huge: the fewer young people are willing to enter the world of farming. A lot of gardens are now still running because of the old generation, but not necessarily anyone's nervous.

If this trend continues, the coffee supply will be severely affected. The question is, how do we get the world back on its feet? Is it technology? Or is it simply through a more fair increase in incements and systems?

my college boy at Bandung won't go back to the garden. I can't blame him because I myself can't promise a sure incestuous. Coffee growers are hard work but the refreshments are often disproportionate.

i understand the condition is heavy. but there may be other angle to try: is there an option for positive coffee to specialty market at a more fair price? Or a partnership model with roaster for direct trade? Some of the farmers who made it to Leverage are far apart. It's not easy.

the problem isn't in his potential. coffee farming can be highly profitable if managed, there's good market access, and there's tech support. what needs to be changed is the perception that farmers are identical to poor and useless work. as long as it doesn't change, the young will not return.

i didn't imagine myself getting involved in the coffee supply or being a farmer. but once you get to know specialty coffee and understand there's a value to be built on these chains, it starts to get interested. it may not be the farmer that needs to be promoted, but the career in the bigger coffee aggressiness.

i'm from a family of coffee farmers in East Java. I know exactly why I went to town not because I didn't love the ground or couldn't be difficult. But when it comes to children's school fees, medical costs, living expenses, they can't go to the cover of a small garden that's nothing more than one acre.

i ingetin: this issue's been discussed for 10-15 years and the global coffee supply hasn't collapsed yet. there's a missed compensation factor: mechanics that slowly enters, agriculture in new areas, per acre productivity that goes up in several regions. maybe there's no need to panic.

long-term solutions are not just romanticization back into the village. all it takes is a mechanism to reduce the physical load, accessible crop insurance systems, and a more bankaable farming model. without decent per acre profitability, there is no real incentive for the young.
