roaster design is it a trade show trend or is there a real app that runs?

konsep modular roaster: beli unit base, tambah modul sesuai kebutuhan. butuh lebih banyak kapasitas? tambah drum module. butuh better data? tambah sensor pack. butuh smoke control? tambah afterburner module.

di atas kertas kedengarannya ideal, terutama buat roastery yang berkembang bertahap dan tidak mau one-shot capex besar di awal.

pertanyaan gue: apakah modular ini beneran modular di praktik, atau hanya "modular" dalam pengertian bisa beli aksesoris opsional dari vendor yang sama dengan harga tinggi? karena kedua hal itu terasa sama dari marketing copy tapi beda jauh dari nilai aktualnya.

nice distortion. true modularity is supposed to be standardized an open interface, not a proprietary ecosynstem. as long as the modulation can only buy from the same vendor, it's more upsell to the ecosystem than the modularity of genuine.

secara engineering, true modular roasting system itu challenging karena heat transfer dan airflow itu sangat sensitive terhadap geometry. setiap kali ada perubahan module, karakteristik termal sistem bisa berubah dan membutuhkan recalibration dari profil yang ada.

i just heard this concept. if it's modular, how about a playdate? if a single module is damaged, can it be replaced temporarily using alternative units or must total downtime until the part arrives?

if it's really modular in a good sense, downtime should be minimal because you can swap module. but that takes spare module, and that spare module takes extra capex. so the benefit is there but it's not free.

ada yang menarik: beberapa startup roasting equipment sekarang posisikan diri mereka sebagai platform, bukan product. bisa add third-party modules kalau vendor publish spec-nya. itu arah yang lebih interesting tapi belum mainstream.

from a little roadtery perspective budge- conscious: if you can start at a small unit of 3kg and upgrade the drum to 6kg without buying a new machine, it's genuinally valuable. but i've never met a product that can actually do that.

it needs to be seen from the long-term compatibility side. small modular vendor, if they're five more years of discontinuous product or closing, the existing module is orphaned and can't upgrade anymore. it's a relevant risk.
